The stories that sell.

How often have you seen traffic slow down a crawl because someone was involved in a four car proper merge on the highway? Pretty much never because peaceful and mundane doesn't spark our interest. But someone pulled over, or better a car accident, even on the other side of the highway, and you've got a four lane parking lot.

Here's a quick quiz. When 300,000 people got together to peacefully march on Washington this past September how much press did it get? Not much, but let fumble fingers Cheney shoot one of his caged bird shoot buddies and everybody's talking about it. Why would you think it's any different for coverage of Isalmic reaction?

What I see is a group of people hell bent on dominating everyone else and killing those they cannot convert. (Much like the early "Christian" policy during the Inquisition and Colonial Era).

You can paint me with a broad brush (as you like to accuse me of doing) and say I am "intolerant" or "racist" or "ignorant" but the fact is I base my opinion on their actions, not any pre-disposed hatred of Islam.

I never advocating nuking Iraq, I wanted to nuke the Taliban in Afghanistan even before the Twin Towers were attacked. In fact I made a thread in about late August of 2001 (on Cincinnati.com before it died) that all of our old nukes sitting around that we never had to use on the USSR could be put to good use in Afghanistan when I read about the Taliban freaks destroying an ancient Buddhist statue. I said in that thread I considered their extremism and intolerance a real threat that needed to be addressed. I wasn't serious about nuking them (not until after 09/11 that is) but my fears were well founded.
We would not need to be involved in the middle east at all if we had developed other energy sources. If the 1973 Arab oil embargo and then the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis were not wake up calls, what is? Since then we have had the administratins of Carter, Reagan x2, Bush, Clinton x2 and Bush Jr. x2 and we are every bit at their mercy now as we were then. Just stupid. So Pina, our opinions are notn as far separated as may seem on the surface. Our approach and underlying sentiments vary I suspect.

Pina these demonstrations have been shown on every news source available. C'mon! Are you suggesting the muslim reaction to the cartoons is a fabrication, or the thousands of people involved in rioting a "minority" reaction? Having a different view is one thing, being blind to events for the sake of your views is dangerous. I thought you had more sense than that....

Gotta go with GL on this one. Unless your head has been in the sand, practically every major news outlet (foreign and US) has covered the riots in Pakistan and other peace loving middle eastern countries.

The AP reports:

Borders and Waldenbooks will not be carrying the April-May issue of Free Inquiry magazine, since it will be republishing those violence-inciting cartoons. They are citing safety and security of employees and customers, apparently feeling that there would be blood shed on the bookshelves should they carry this issue.

Although I grieve for the First Amendment, I cannot fault the businesses. This would be a forseeable outcome of stocking the issue, and if they did stock it and injury occurred, they would be liable.
